I am a CHOM

Wherever people from UP or Bihar go they are addressed with a slang “Bhaiya”, and dare you address them as “bhaiya” an uncanny resentment will flow out of them and will sweep you away….. but just think, why do any one from these places need to react in this manner, as per me, they should not because people from other lands are also called with some or the other peculiar name like Guajarati are called GUJJU, Marathi are called GHATIS, people from Kerala are addressed as MALLUS, Bengalis as DADA and so on and on…. So what is the big deal if people from north are addressed as BHAIYAS …. Of course there is a big-big deal and that is the monotony. One is destined to lose interest in any and every thing which does not changes over a period of time. So Just for this reason we needed a new name to our ethnicity, I am sorry I forgot to mention that I am also a proud Bhaiya from Bhaiyaland.
Recently after shifting to Goregaon with 3 very interesting guys from AP who did their graduation from BITS Pilani, I came across an even more interesting word “CHOM”. It happened once that I asked our maid to make only chapattis and no rice for me, and immediately one of them addressed me CHOM, I said wow, and asked him what did it mean, he said we used to call all the north Indian guys in our hostel ‘CHOM’, it’s because chapattis was their staple diet, and CHOM stands for CHapatti Oriented Men. I was really impressed with their assertion and felt a respite that at last I got a substitute of the perpetual term Bhaiya. He didn’t stopped there and went on elaborating the beauty of CHOM, he said the CHOMness (Affinity for Chapattis) of a person increases as we approach towards north and reaches an apogee as soon as one is in UP, then he said the CHOM states are UP, Bihar, Delhi, Haryana, Punjab, Rajasthan and MP and there CHOMness is supplemented with various accessories, like in UP Potatoes are a typical supplement of CHOMs, it makes their CHOMness complete, for Punjabis Butter chicken and Tandoori kebabs completes their CHOMness. They also gave a few more words derived from the root word CHOM.
CHOM – CHapatti Oriented Men
CHOMness – Affinity for Chapatti
CHOMgiri - Dadagiri
CHOMania – A south Indian chummed by North Indian
CHOMism – Traits exhibited by North Indians
CHOMophobia – Scare of North Indians

"Entrepreneurship a Trait"

How smart are you in judging people by the way they dress up, if you really have any prejudices, you are invited to Morbi. A small town of Saurashtra which has turned into the country’s biggest ceramic manufacturing belt. People here cannot be distinguished by how they look, walk, talk, eat or work. If you don’t believe it then take my words that if you are asked to figure out that who is the MD of a company and who is his driver, 50 percent of the time you will land up selecting the wrong person because law of probability itself says that chances of selecting a wrong event from two similar events is half, yes both the MD and the Driver look alike and in some cases the driver looks even better than the MD. A person reflects a lot about himself by the way he dress up, but for people in Morbi this law does not holds true.
Recently I visited a ceramic plant, I was told by the usher that the owner is busy and will take 10 more minutes, I said ok and waited for him to come, after some time I saw a man approaching, height 5’ 5, uncombed hairs, torn up trousers and shirt with top 4 buttons open, I didn’t paid any notice, but he came and stood exactly in front of me and asked “Kaune madvu che”, I replied “Ramesh Bhai”, he said “Hu Ramesh Bhai Chu”, next word which I spoke was “Sir”, and suddenly a man whom I didn’t even bothered to notice turned into Sir.
Entrepreneurship is an aboriginal rite for the people here. They don’t need a MBA degree, no formal education can teach them how to make money, it’s something which they get as heritage. Isn’t it amazing that without knowing the meaning of profitability they reap huge profits. For almost all the industries here the MD is a person, who is not even a graduate, Technical head of the plant is another man who has learnt to repair motors and breakers by experience, not by any formal education. it’s like a clique of 12 -13 people who contributing 13-14 lakhs each start a ceramic manufacturing unit with a very simple objective of producing nonstop masses of ceramic products. For them it’s as simple as - starting, manufacturing and selling and that’s the end of the road.

“Relationships-of all kinds-are like sand held in your hand. Held loosely, with an open hand, the sand remains where it is. The minute you close your hand and squeeze tightly to hold on, the sand trickles through your fingers. You may hold onto some of it, but most will be spilled. "

"A relationship is like that. Held loosely, with respect and freedom for the other person, it is likely to remain intact. But hold too tightly, too possessively, and the relationship slips away and is lost.”

Thinking Mind

Our mind is like a wild horse uncontrolled, untamed, traversing varied spheres... sometimes in affirmation and sometimes in negation. We experience many emotions, feelings and thoughts because of this versatile nature of our mind, but we rarely think that the quality of all these depends largely on the way, how we tame this wild horse. In our lives we know things or actions which we ought not to do, but miss on things and actions which we need to do.... and being preoccupied with things which are negative by nature, how can we expect to excel or do well in any domain of life. To curb this sphere of negative energies which predominantly surround our mind we should focus on things we need to do instead of focusing on things which we shouldn’t, it will give us a direction and will also enable us to think and behave positively. For example we state a pious feeling of ‘Love’ in the most negative way, when we say: “I have fallen in love”, here 'falling' itself shows a sign of degradation, and such statements can only emerge when you have some pessimism attached to the core. For achieving anything, you needn't bother for what is not to be done and instead focus on what is to be done, just doing this will eradicate any impediment between you and your goal.

I Am Partying Really Hard

Ask me to party and you will rarely find a denial… After coming to Mumbai I have turned into a serious party animal. I have all the right to party if it’s the smallest reason to be happy… or ….. I party to be happy, if I am sad for some reason … my reasons for partying range from the most sensible to the weirdest reasons one can think of … like
We didn’t have a beer for a week now… “oh lets go to party”
Dabba wala cancelled the dabba …. “hmmm we are forced to party”
I had a narrow escape while coming from office … “akshay you got a new lease of life.. lets party”
Oh its Saturday …. “Where are we going to party” … I suggest Saturday should be renamed as ‘Partyday’.
Dost we have met after a long time, yes we met almost 2 weeks back … “hmmm ….lets party”
I got a salary hike of 50 rs….is it…. “wow we should party”
It all started when I joined my graduation college and was picked by a party freak club where we used to party for any and every possible reason, since then my partying habit has increased exponentially… for example if I consider the past week … I just partied on Saturday, Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and today again.
